In what could only be described as a once in a lifetime move, Trackhouse driver Ross Chastain pulled off what could only be described as an insane move, jumping from tenth to fifth in the span of a single corner at the Martinsville Speedway by driving up against the wall.
Ride on Chastain’s Wall
Chastain pulled off a move called the wall ride going into the last corner, which secured his spot in the final four and a shot at the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2022.
It was also ironic that Chastain got inspiration from a move more commonly seen in video games. The driver of the number 1 car claimed to have practiced the move on the NASCAR video game on his Nintendo GameCube.
During all the laps we’ve done in the simulator, I never thought about it,” Chastain said.
Probably on the video game console, when I was young and dreamed of being a NASCAR driver. But on the last lap, I thought… why not? I didn’t know what to expect… but it worked out well. And I’m glad I did it.”
In Phoenix on the first weekend of November, Chastain will compete with Joey Logano, Chase Elliot and Christopher Bell for the 2022 title.
