The 42-year-old Formula 1 world champion crashed at Watkins Glen on his NASCAR debut.
A multi-car incident damaged the Finn to the point of dragging him out of the race. He ended up pinned against the barrier on the left side of the track.
Kimi made progress in his Chevrolet, but after a pit stop, he dropped to 28th place in a race that went from wet to dry.
It’s part of the game
It was an abrupt end to his debut (he participated in a couple of NASCAR events during his F1 sabbatical 11 years ago).
On lap 45, Raikkonen was pushed off track and ended up in the barriers.
“I had the good line, but everyone came to the left. I didn’t have time to react,” Raikkonen said.
“At the first impact, someone hit the tyre or wheel directly and the steering wheel spun. I hurt my wrist, but it will heal.
It’s all part of the game.”
I am satisfied with the experience
“I have nothing against NASCAR,” Raikkonen said of his experience behind the wheel of a Cup Series car.
