Novak Djokovic was granted entry to Australia this Wednesday after being deported last year for refusing to vaccinate against COVID-19.

As part of his quest to win the Australian Open for a record 10th time, the Serbian player will first compete at the Adelaide International, which begins on Sunday.

At the first Grand Slam of 2023, Novak Djokovic will undoubtedly be the player to beat once again, said Craig Tiley, tournament director for the Australian Open.

Australia banned Novak Djokovic for three years

Since last year Novak Djokovic was deported due to Australia’s strict rules for unvaccinated travelers, he also faced a potential three-year ban from the country, but last month, Immigration Minister Andrew Giles said that he would have been granted a visa for the player to compete in their territory.

In Dubai last week, Novak Djokovic said he had been very fortunate to start the year very strong in Australia.

Hopefully I can have a decent reception there after what happened earlier this year, and that will help me play some good tennis.”
