As an elite-level single man in the tennis circuit, dating Canadian star Genie Bouchard would not be an option. In a recent interview on ‘Golf, Mostly’ podcast hosted by Michelle Wie West and Hally Leadbetter, she confessed that even though she has dated fellow athletes before, she looks to avoid talking about her sport incessantly. She admitted that having a romantic partner who already understands the game and its nuances can be quite overwhelming, so she seeks to distance herself from that situation.
Genie said: “I would definitely not want to date someone in the tennis world because it would be just so much tennis, it would be like nonstop all day long. They would probably relate to you more than anyone, but on the other hand, they are like my friends. Because my entire day is filled with tennis, I like to text or call someone and talk about totally different stuff than tennis, so I feel as if dating would work the same way.
When it comes to the qualities she seeks in a man, Genie notes that respect and confidence are key. Additionally, she finds a sense of humour attractive, as beyond looks, the ability to laugh brings the potential for friendship and future companionship. That being said, with her upcoming month on the road presumably restricting her socialising opportunities, Genie expects to be limited to enjoying room service and spending time with her coach.
