ATP Masters champion Novak Djokovic is two wins away from claiming the title for the sixth time, his first since 2015, giving him a chance to reclaim the world number one.
He has been the most consistent player in the second half of the season since winning Wimbledon, with 600 points after three group stage matches.
The success has also made him the first tennis player to reach $160 million in prize money (154,401,600 euros).
He won titles in Tel Aviv and Astana despite missing the entire American hard court tour – the Masters 1000 in Montreal and Cincinnati and the US Open.
Holger Rune ended Djokovic’s 20-match winning streak, but he has shown impressive form at the Alpitour in Turin in each of his appearances.
6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(2) in 3 hours and 11 minutes, he defeated Daniil Medvedev and is through to the semi-finals for the seventh time.
In the first set, Djokovic was nearly perfect, but Medvedev responded by taking the second set with a fourth set point.
In the third and final set, Djokovic recovered from a break down to win his 40th tour-level match.
