The long road ahead for Jon Rahm at the World Match Play Championship
The favorite for this week’s final victory at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play is none other than Scottie Scheffler, the world number one.
During his time at university, he also won the tournament at Austin Country Club, a course he knows well.
With his victory at the Phoenix Open, Scheffler has already successfully defended another tournament this season after winning The Players Championship less than a fortnight ago.
On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 64 players compete in the Texas event, divided into 16 groups of four players.
All invitees except Justin Thomas and Justin Rose have declined to participate in the final playoff.
Aside from Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Max Homa are among the favorites, but it is a format that invites surprises.
The other favorite would be none other than Jason Day, a two-time winner of the tournament who is currently enjoying a career resurgence
On Wednesday, Jon Rahm will face Rickie Fowler from Group 2.
As well as them are Billy Horschel and Keith Mitchell, although both the Spaniard and the ‘reborn’ Fowler have shown in previous weeks that they are at their finest.
